Summary:

The primary responsibility for the General & Skilled Labourer is to support the superintendent and foreman as requested to keep the site is moving forward.

Health & Entry Requirements:

  • Healthy & physically fit
  • Good hearing
  • Able to perform manual labour for several hours at a time
  • Minimum 18 years old
  • Possess a valid SIN #
  • English skills sufficient to understand a Site Safety Orientation

General Responsibilities:

  1. Follow site safety rules.
  2. Follow instructions from Foreman & Superintendents.
  3. Complete tasks as required.
  4. Stay on task.
  5. Ask questions.
  6. Listen and be observant.

Duties:

General Labourers do a variety of tasks involving physical labour. Tasks may include:

  • Keep the job site clean and organized – shoveling, sweeping and vacuuming.
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations.
  • Operate hand and power tools of all types.
  • Clean up rubble, debris and other waste materials to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Dig ditches, holes or trenches,
  • Backfill excavations
  • Compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.
  • Tend pumps, compressors, or generators that provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment.
  • Control or direct traffic on the site.
  • Assist other workers as required.

Skilled Labourers do a variety of tasks involving physical labour. Tasks may include:

  • Using a variety of hand and power tools
  • Stripping and disassembly of concrete forms
  • Setting up and taking down of ladders, planks, scaffolding, staging and temporary structures
  • Set up/ operation of water removal pumps and hoses
  • Crane rigging
  • Setting up/ building and removal of temporary safety barriers and hand railings
  • Various carpentry related tasks including: Back framing, Frame checking, Steel stud framing
  • Installs insulation and vapour barrier
  • Knowledge in measuring and snapping lines and assisting in layout
  • Load, unload, or move building materials to the appropriate locations.
  • Compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, or rakes.
  • Keep the job site clean and organized – shoveling, sweeping and vacuuming.
  • Operate machines including Zoom Boom, Skid Steer, Boom Lift.
  • Assist other workers as required.

Wage:

  • starts at $16 to $24+ per hour & goes up depending on experience & skills
